Tim is an unlockable guest character in Super Meat Boy.

General information

Appearance

Tim is a human with brown hair and fair skin. He wears a suit, a red tie, grey pants, and black shoes.

Origin

Tim originates from Braid, a 2008 platformer designed to subvert video game conventions and trends. The game depicts Tim as the hero of the game in which he is trying to "rescue" a princess. In gameplay, he has the ability to reverse time.

Gameplay

Movement

Compared to Meat Boy, Tim:

• Cannot run
• Walks faster
• Jumps at the same height
• Wall slides slightly lower
• Wall-jumps at the same height

Ability

When holding the run button, Tim will reverse time, undoing all his movements up to three seconds before the button press. Only Tim's movement is reversed, not collectible or other interactive objects. Tim is invincible when reversing time.

How to unlock

To unlock Tim in console versions, the player must collect 50 bandages. This can be done as early as The Salt Factory.

In the PC version of Super Meat Boy, Tim can not be unlocked. Instead, he can be played as by entering the code "outtatime" on the character select screen. Unlike other "code input" characters, this will not play the "Push the buttons!" voice clip.

Trivia

• The "rewind potion" shown in Tim's description and artwork is possibly a reference to a video in which Soulja Boy plays Braid, referring to his ability as a "going back in time potion".
• In the PC version of Super Meat Boy, Naija takes Tim's place as the 50 bandage unlock.

Bugs

• If you use his rewind time ability at the right moment when you die, The timer will stay at zero, but he will be floating in the air. If you manage to get to a platform in this state, You can complete the level with a time of 0.00.
• If you rewind time and hold The sprint button at the beginning of the level, He will repeat the spawn animation and the sound will play too. This will end as soon as you stop holding the sprint button.
• Tim can be used to clip through moving platforms or appearing and disappearing Platforms and walls, but letting go of the sprint button will immediately warp you out of the platform.
• If you double press the sprint button you will stay perfectly still in the air for as long as you hold the sprint button making a good shield in a pinch.
• Spamming the run button (this only works in most, but not all levels) enough times will eventually "revive" Tim and bring him to the approximate location of his last death.
• While using the rewind potion, you are completely invulnerable until you stop using the rewind potion.
• If Tim used the rewind potion on or inside of any hazard while watching your replay, he will still die regardless of the rewind still being active and will set the replay time to infinite.
• If you press another sprint button while the Rewind has been active for 3 seconds, you will go back to where you were before using the rewind potion.
