Super Meat Boy is a 2010 platform game developed and published by Team Meat. It is the first official game in the Super Meat Boy series, following the Flash prototype. It stars Meat Boy, who attempts to rescue his girlfriend Bandage Girl. The game is infamous for it's difficult level design and simple yet hard to master controls.

Super Meat Boy originally released on the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade service on October 20, 2010. Since then, it has recieved multiple ports to plenty of other systems, most of which were co-developed by Blitworks.

Story[]

Meat Boy lives with his girlfriend Bandage Girl. One day, Bandage Girl is kidnapped by Dr. Fetus, an intelligent fetus in an outfitted jar. Meat Boy gives chase through The Forest, until Fetus burns down the forest and tries to kill Meat Boy in Lil' Slugger, which is destroyed after Meat Boy tricks him into running into a bunch of saws and squirrels. Fetus escapes with Bandage Girl, leaving behind a destroyed forest with trees burned and squirrels dead and injured.

Meat Boy gives chase to The Hospital, where he encounters Dr. Fetus again. This time, he floods the hospital with blood, revealing a giant blood clot monster named C.H.A.D., who is playful, but very cumbersome. Meat Boy exposes C.H.A.D. to the sun, causing him to shrink, but Fetus escapes while Meat Boy confronts the weakened C.H.A.D.

Meat Boy follows Dr. Fetus to The Salt Factory, where a being resembling Meat Boy named Brownie is created by Fetus. The two race out of the factory when Fetus floods it with salt. Meat Boy escaped, but Fetus prevents Brownie from making it, by throwing bricks at him. Meat Boy jumps over to Fetus, but he knocks him out and into the salt.

Meat Boy, Bandage Girl, and Dr Fetus all end up in Hell. Meat Boy discovers that every time he dies, his corpses end up there, and a large mass of them form Little Horn, who fights Meat Boy. After defeating it, Meat Boy confronts Fetus again, but he nukes both Hell and the above world, causing the Rapture.

Meat Boy progresses through the ruined cityscape and Dr. Fetus' weapons facility until he encounters the Larries. After defeating them, Fetus rises to his castle with Bandage Girl, and Meat Boy catches them just in time. The End begins.

Meat Boy and Dr. Fetus face off in a showdown where Dr. Fetus tries to shoot Meat Boy, but is defeated by Meat Boy destroying a bridge. His suit breaks, but tries to kill Meat Boy and Bandage Girl by blowing up the castle. Meat Boy and Bandage Girl narrowly escape, with Brownie returning and sacrificing himself to save Meat Boy.

As Bandage Girl hugs Meat Boy after escaping, Fetus suddenly lands on Bandage Girl and tries to pummel her as the game cuts to credits. In the Dark World ending, it is shown that Fetus's attacks were ineffective and Bandage Girl proceeds to stomp him into a bloody pulp.

In a series of mid-credits scenes, one of the squirrels recovers as the forest heals, C.H.A.D. receives plastic surgery and becomes a model, Brownie rises from his grave, but is knocked out by the toilet that creates him, corpses of Meat Boy dance in celebration in Hell, the Larries reproduce, and Meat Boy and Bandage Girl hold hands.

In a post-credits scene exclusive to the Dark World ending, we see inside of Bandage Girl, where it is revealed she is pregnant with another Dr. Fetus.

THE END?

Achievements[]

The Xbox, PSN, and Steam versions of Super Meat Boy have achievement systems. Achievements for these three versions can be found here.

Note: The Switch and Wii U versions don't have any sort of achievements because the consoles themselves don't have an achievement system in the first place.

Soundtrack[]

The Xbox and PC releases of Super Meat Boy feature a soundtrack by composer Danny Baranowsky. A second soundtrack was made by composers Ridiculon, Scattle, and Laura Shigihara titled the "5th Anniversary Soundtrack" and used for the PS4 and PS Vita ports of the game in 2015, as well as all future ports. The 2015 soundtrack was added to the Steam version as an alternate soundtrack on April 13, 2017.

Both in-game soundtracks can be found here.
